The Volt Guard 1600 is a DC to DC converter. This lightweight device, created for drag racing by Creek Flow Management, eliminates the need for expensive 16 volt systems.

In the past few years many drag racers have changed from a 12 to a 16 volt electrical system in order to improve ignition output voltage. The problem is that the 16 volt system does not run at a constant 16 volts just like the old 12 volt systems. The increase from 12 to 16 volts is definitely an advantage, but both systems still face the same problem. As the input voltage drops so does the output voltage.

Almost every ignition system on the market today the output voltage and ignition timing are affected by a change in input voltage. Lloyd Creek of Creek Flow Management and Ron Jacobson of RTC have developed a solution to this problem.

The Volt Guard 1600, a DC to DC converter, is able to convert a variable input voltage of 9 to 16 volts into a continuous 16 volt output. It contains a special provision for starting with an input voltage as low as 6 volts. The Volt Guard 1600 has an output capacity of 16 volts at a continuous output current of 25 amps at +/- 1% regulation.

The Volt Guard 1600 eliminates the use of the expensive 16 volt components (special chargers and batteries) and allows the use of inexpensive and readily available 12 volt systems. Weighing only 3.3 pounds and 8 inches square and 2 ¾" high, the Volt Guard 1600 can be installed in almost any location on a vehicle. It can replace the heavy 16volt (50lb) battery with a light weight 12v (14lb-20lb) battery.

Specially designed for drag racing, the Volt Guard 1600 can also be configured for use in other motor sport applications.
